On 15 January 2024, Ambassador Qi Qianjin met with the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Croatia for Foreign and European Policy, Ambassador Neven Pelicarić, Ambassador Qi clarified China's principled position on the elections in the Taiwan region. He said that the elections of the Taiwan region belong to the affairs of a region in China. The elections could not change the basic pattern and development direction of cross-strait relations, could not block the trend of time and history of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the reunification of China, and could not change the general consensus of the international community on respecting the principle of one China. China appreciated Croatia's long-term adherence to the one-China principle and hoped that Croatia would continue to adhere to the one-China principle and maintain and develop bilateral relations.

Ambassador Pelicarić pointed out that Croatia had always firmly adhered to the principle of one China, and advocated the development of long-term friendly and cooperative relations with China. The elections in the Taiwan region were an issue of China, and Croatia would not comment on it. We hoped that the situation across the Taiwan Strait would remain calm and stable.
