H.E. RAO Hongwei Held a Reception Celebrating the Chinese New Year 2019

On January 26th 2019, H.E. RAO Hongwei, Ambassador of China to Rwanda, held a reception celebrating the Chinese New Year of Pig. Around 300 invitees from Rwandan government and social communities, diplomatic corps, Chinese companies and institutes attended.

                                               

Ambassador RAO Hongwei introduced in his speech the auspicious cultural connotations of the Chinese lunar New Year of the Pig, and extended good wishes to the guests. He said, the year 2018 boasts the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. Over the past four decades, China has achieved an averaging annual GDP growth rate of 9.5%. Now, China is the second largest economy, contributing to 30% of the global economic growth. Besides, China is the largest manufacturer, largest exporter of goods, holder of the biggest foreign exchange reserve, and a major source of global foreign investment and tourism.

                                                 

Ambassador RAO said, the year 2018 is a historic year for China-Rwanda relations. H. E. Xi Jinping, paid the first ever state visit to Rwanda by the Chinese President. The two head of states reaffirmed the willingness to translate the traditional friendship and high level political trust into concrete benefits for the two countries and two peoples. During the visit 15 cooperative bilateral agreements and MOUs were signed, which opened a new era for China-Rwanda relations.

              

Ambassador RAO said, the year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Despite the complexities and difficulties, the Chinese government will always closely relies on the people and stick to self-reliance and hard work on the road to realize the Chinese Dream.

              

Ambassador RAO said, China's development will create more opportunities for Rwanda and Africa, while Rwanda and Africa's growth will add new driving forces to China. The consensus reached by our two Heads of State and outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit have given wings to the building-up of the China-Rwanda community of a shared future. With joint efforts, we will promote the Belt and Road Initiative as an important platform for the win-win cooperation.

              

Ambassador RAO said, the Spring Festival is a festival of reunion. We Chinese never forget the solemn mission to promote the peaceful reunification of mainland China with Taiwan, realizing the big family reunion of the Chinese nation at an early date. We insist cross-strait reunification is the trend of history and a must for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On the basis of the common political foundation of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence", political parties and all sectors on both sides of the Strait should conduct consultation on cross-strait relations and the future of the nation.

              

Hon. Soraya Hakuziyaremye, Rwandan Minister of Trade and Industry, on behalf of the Rwandan Government, attended the reception and delivered a speech. She wished all of the Chinese people in Rwanda a healthy and prosperous new year and spoke highly of the historical development of the Rwanda-China relations. Hon. Hakuziyaremye said, the two heads of states of Rwanda and China successfully paid a visit to the country of each other during the past two years, greatly deepened the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and promoted the bilateral cooperation in various areas. Trade and investment between the two countries have remained grown steadily, boosted the Rwandan economy growth, development of industrialization and "made in Rwanda" Initiative, in a hope to see an increase of exports to China, as well as a larger presence of Chinese companies in Rwanda. At last, Hakuziyaremye wished the bonds between the two countries and the two peoples continue to flourish in the new year.

                                               

This year's reception was innovated in forms with dozens of Chinese food booth displayed. 15 Chinese companies and restaurants in Rwanda were invited to provide food together with the Chinese Embassy. On the grass ground in the Chinese Embassy, beautiful tents decorated with the Chinese lanterns, colorful lights and Rwandan traditional cultural elements were set up. A feast of delicious Chinese food, the laughter of guests and the cheerful music filled the reception a joyful festive atmosphere. Xinhua News Agency, the New Times, RTV, Kigali Today among other medias covered the cultural event.
