2021/11/22

On November 21, National Kung-Fu Wushu Championship of Rwanda was held in Kigali. Ms. Xing Yuchun, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, Mr. Joseph KAJANGWE, Secretary-General of the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee and Mr. Marc UWIRAGIYE, President of Rwanda Kung-Fu Wushu Federation attended the event.

Ms. Xing Yuchun said in her speech that, wushu is a sport that everyone can practice to build up physical fitness. Wushu is also the carrier of Chinese culture, embodying profound philosophy that has prevailed for thousands of years. Furthermore, wushu is a bridge connecting China and Rwanda, which has witnessed the growing cultural exchanges between the two countries. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Rwanda. Over the past 50 years, two countries have developed friendship "higher than the mountain". The Chinese Embassy looks forward to the next 50 years of fruitful bilateral cooperation and a bright shared future of the two countries, as well as seeing more people practicing wushu in Rwanda, further expanding the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Mr. Joseph and Mr. Marc thanked the Chinese Embassy in supporting wushu activities in Rwanda, and expressed hope that this championship would be an opportunity for more Rwandans to know and practice wushu.

This championship is the first national wushu event held in Rwanda since the outbreak of COVID-19. Hosted by the Rwanda Kung-Fu Wushu Federation, the championship included competitions of Taolu and Sanda, and attracted around 200 players from 31 clubs to participate.
