Journalists from Rwandan Media Houses Interviewed Chinese Medical Team to Rwanda

On October 15, journalists from Rwandan media houses including Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, The New Times, IGIHE and Kigali Today,visited Masaka Hospital, Kigali to interview the 21st batch of the Chinese Medical Team to Rwanda.

Captain of the Chinese Medical Team, Mr. Wu Yao, interpreter Mr. Feng Kai, and representatives of doctors were interviewed. They shared the stories of how they treated local patients and shared experiences and skills with fellow local doctors, by overcoming difficulties of language barriers and risks of COVID-19. They said that the Chinese Medical Team to Rwanda has a history of nearly 40 years and has witnessed the profound friendship between the people of China and Rwanda. They felt honored to work in Rwanda and provide tangible help to the Rwandan people on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of China-Rwanda diplomatic relations. They would keep the tradition of the Chinese Medical Team to better benefit the local people.


The Director of Masaka Hospital, and representatives of doctors and nurses in the hospital also received interviews. They thanked the Chinese Medical Team’s contribution to Rwanda's health sector, and praised the professionalism and skills of Chinese colleagues. They said that despite the huge risks of the pandemic, the Chinese Medical Team persisted in fulfilling their duties. It shows the sincere friendship of the Chinese people toward Rwanda, adding a new chapter to Rwanda-China friendship. Some local patients receiving treatment praised the Chinese doctors for their good medical services and called them good friends of the Rwandan people.


The journalists commented that the high-quality medical services provided by the Chinese Medical Team are well-known in the local community. They will let more Rwandans know the Chinese Medical Team and the story of Rwanda-China friendship.


Since 1982, China has sent a total of 258 members of medical team to Rwanda. The 21st batch of Chinese Medical Team to Rwanda consists of 15 members, which are assigned by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. They have diagnosed and treated a total of 5,045 cases in 9 months’ time since their arrival.
