On September 7, journalists from Rwandan media houses including Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, The New Times, IGIHE, Kigali Today, and Africa-China Review, visited China-Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Center (C-RATDC) in Huye District, Southern Province.
The journalists listened to the introduction of projects operated by the C-RATDC, namely, Juncao mushroom technology program, rice cultivation, water and soil conservation and sericulture. They entered workshops of the center to learn about the growing of mushroom and rough processing of silk products. They also went down to paddy fields to see the management of rice growing. During a visit to local growing houses of mushroom, two farmers said that, Chinese experts have been teaching them for years on growing of mushrooms, sharing all the know-hows and experiences with them, which have helped them greatly increased their income and improved their living standards.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of China and Rwanda. After the visit, the journalists said that through this meaningful trip in such an important year, they were impressed by the achievements of Rwanda-China practical cooperation, which have been playing an important role in the betterment of people's living and embodied profound friendship between the two countries. They would faithfully report the stories to let more Rwandans know how Chinese agricultural experts are helping Rwandan farmers realize a better life.
China-Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Center (C-RATDC) was established in 2011 and has made outstanding achievements in promoting Juncao mushroom technology in Rwanda. The center has so far held 57 training courses, trained more than 2,000 people, introduced Juncao technology to more than 3,800 farmers, supported more than 50 cooperatives and enterprises, with lots of farmers becoming veterans in mushroom growing industry. Nowadays, Rwanda's mushroom growing industry is booming with Juncao products further exported to other countries in Central and East Africa.
