On August 27th, 2020, Chinese Embassy in Kigali donates an assortment of food supplies including rice, maize flour, beans, cooking oil and washing detergent to Gasabo District, Kigali City. The recovery items will be distributed to 300 families of teachers or educators in this district whose contracts are suspended or salaries cut following the closure of schools since mid-March.
In her remarks, Ms XING Yuchun, Political Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy, says that the Chinese Embassy in Kigali firmly supports the economic and social development of Rwanda and its Government to fight against the coronavirus. Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rwanda, China has been providing assistance through various channels including government, the Communist Party of China, parliament, military and the private sector. Being the fundamental cause of national development and progress, education is also an important area of cooperation between China and Rwanda. In collaboration with the Rwanda China Alumni Organization, the Embassy provides subsistence to the most affected families of Rwandan teachers and educators to help them combat the virus and navigate the tough times. "When people are united, mountains can be moved." The united Rwandan people will definitely claim final victory over the pandemic at an early date.
Attending on behalf of the Rwandan Government, Mr. Regis Mudaheranwa, Deputy Executive Administrator of Gasabo District, expresses his appreciation to the Embassy on its consistent contribution to Rwanda for fighting against the virus. With the food supplies, he says, the educators will be able to handle the difficulties in life and the impact of Covid-19 on Rwanda's education sector will be reduced. China is an essential partner of Rwanda, Gasabo district is looking forward to strengthening cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Kigali.
