H.E. Amb. Rao Hongwei briefs Rwandan Journalists about China's combat against NCP

On February 7th, 2020, while attending the signing ceremony of an agreement between China and Rwanda at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda (MINECOFIN), H.E. Ambassador Rao Hongwei, briefed Rwandan journalists about how the Chinese Government was combating against the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP).

The Ambassador updated the novel coronavirus epidemic and elaborated about the serious measures taken accordingly by the Chinese Government. He articulated that it was the crucial battle for the Chinese Government and people to triumph over the epidemic, and he stressed that some positive signs had loomed in spite of the current grim situation. He stated that, under the robust leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese Government could hyper-effectively mobilize the whole Chinese population to devote themselves into the combat against the pestilence, and the Chinese people were determined, confident and capable to succeed in the battle.

Ever since the outbreak of the epidemic, in a highly consistent, responsible and transparent manner, China notified WHO of the epidemic immediately, and initiated international cooperation, such as disclosing genetic data and sequences about the virus. WHO, together with a great number of world leaders, commended China's highly effective measures against the epidemic and repeated their full confidence in China's capability of containing the prevalence.

Rwanda and China are staunch partners, friends and brothers. As a demonstration of the old saying a Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed, H. E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, wrote a letter of solidarity to H. E. President XI Jinping, and expressed his faith in China's soonest and ultimate triumph over the epidemic. Immediately after the outbreak of the disaster, Hon. Vincent Biruta, Rwanda's Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met up with Ambassador Rao and issued the Statement of Solidarity with the People's Republic of China, and expressed gratitude to China for supporting the Rwandan nationals living in Hubei Province, namely, epicenter of the epidemic.

In response to the journalists' inquiry about the possible impact inflicted upon China's economy as well as economic and trade cooperation between China and Rwanda, Ambassador Rao stressed that the negative effects from the pestilence would be temporary, and would not deviate China's economy, and China would not dwindle its devotion to the consistent and close bilateral economic collaboration.

Hon. Uzziel Ndagijimana, Rwandan Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, recognized Ambassador Rao's briefing and China's everlasting support to the social and economic progress in Rwanda. He reconfirmed the solidarity of the Rwandan Government and people side by side with China and their confidence in China to win the battle against the epidemic.
